Is it completely necessary for me to have a guide to backpack in the rocky mountains?

Question: Is it completely necessary for me to have a guide to backpack in the rocky mountains?

I am 19 years old planning a backpacking trip to Colorado in the spring, we have all been on other weeklong type trips in the wilderness, and I have even been to the Rockies. All other times we have had a guide, but are thinking that it would save us money, as well as allow for more freedom to be out there on our own.

Downpours, broken legs, twisted ankles, snake bites, hornet stings....lets say an experienced first aid trained individual sounds good?
